Mike Florio at PRO FOOTBALL TALK reports that Zach Thomas has agreed to a deal with the Dallas Cowboys that “carries a $1 million signing bonus and a $1 million base salary in 2008. Thomas also can earn up to $1 million in incentives. Though it’s technically a multi-year deal, the structure will make it essentially a one-year relationship.”
The multi-concussed, former Texas Tech Red Raider had previously met with the Patriots (who offered him a contract on the spot) and the New Orleans Saints.
The news has to disappoint Bill Belichick, who has made a habit of taking castoffs from the Miami Dolphins of late (Wes Welker, defensive coach Dom Capers).
Belichick is apparently also entertaining the possibility of signing former Miami receiver Marty Booker, who at least to us, played like a dog last season. Amazing though what the prospect of a Super Bowl ring can do to a guy’s adrenaline.
It’s also rather interesting to note how enthusiastic the Pats, Saints and ‘Boys were about multiple pro bowler Thomas. You wonder if he’ll become the Welker of 2008 - an ex-Fin having a great season for a Super Bowl contender.
UPDATE: Florio also reports Rex Grossman has signed a one-year deal with the Bears.
