It’s an exciting time for young Tampa resident Ian Chapkis. Not only is his favorite team, the Pittsburgh Steelers, in the Super Bowl, but he turned 13 just in time for the big game. And, since Ian is Jewish, we all know what that means — Steelers Bar Mitzvah 2009!
Chapkis picked up Steelers fandom from his father, who is from Pittsburgh. The family says it had been planning the theme long before the team ended up making Super Bowl. Should the favored Steelers lose to the Cardinals on Sunday, Ian is required for the first time in his life to take it like a man.
We’ve seen how much the Chinese like saying “let’s go Steelers,” but I don’t think I’ve ever heard anyone say it in Hebrew.
BAY NEWS 9 was on the scene for the Saturday night festivities, which unfortunately did not include Terry Bradshaw standing in as a drunk uncle.

Around the room, there were small shrines to each of the five previous Super Bowl wins for the Steelers. Invitations were printed on “tickets” to come to “Ian Stadium,” which appears to have been the ballroom at like a Hilton or something.
Strangely, it appears as if the DJ was wearing a Devils hockey jersey. I’m sure the rabid Pittsburgh fans were happy to see you break that out. Here are some stills from the party:
