YANKEE PA POSTSEASON STREAK SILENCED AT 121 GAMES: Bob Sheppard’s voice has been booming through the halls of Yankee Stadium for 57 years. Unfortunately, the long- time public address announcer will be quiet for the ALDS:

The New York Yankees have announced that Sheppard will not be at the park for Game 3 and 4 (if necessary), due to contracting a bronchial infection. His absence will also end a streak of 121 straight postseason appearances for the PA speaker.
Sheppard’s first vocal playoff performance occured in Game 1 of the 1951 World Series - back when the Yankees line-up included DiMaggio, Mantle, Mays and Berra, and the opposing Giants were still playing in the Polo Grounds.
Despite the illness, Sheppard hopes to get back in the booth soon, so he can “watch - and announce - Yankees playoff games long into October.”
