Yeah, the New York-Boston rivalry can be a fierce one at times, but in the case of Matthew Beaudoin, the bad blood went too far.
The NASHUA (NH) TELEGRAPH reports that 43-year-old Ivonne Hernandez has been charged with 2nd-degree murder for running over the 29-year-old Beaudoin, who died from his injuries.
And it was all because of a Yankees-Red Sox spat.
Beaudoin, a Red Sox fan, was hanging out with friends early Friday morning at Slade’s, a local Nashua bar, when Hernandez came in:
An argument inside Slade’s intensified after Hernandez announced she was a Yankees fan, said Tanya Moran, 29, a bartender at Slade’s. The argument spilled outside, and several people, including Beaudoin, began chanting “Yankees suck!” when they saw a Yankees sticker on Hernandez’s car, Moran said.
Apparently, Hernandez wasn’t very happy about her treatment in the bar, so she decided to strike back, as Beaudoin & 21-year-old Maria Hughes were walking home:
Hernandez gunned her vehicle across a gravel tire company parking lot and struck the (couple) as they walked near the Elm Street parking lot behind City Hall, police said.
The other pedestrian struck received only minor injuries because Beaudoin shielded (her), said the victim’s sister, Faith Beaudoin, of Burke Street. She described her brother as “a hero.”
In addition to murder, Hernandez has also been charged with one felony count of aggravated driving while intoxicated and two felony counts of reckless conduct.
Meanwhile, Faith Beaudoin announced that her brother’s organs were being donated after his death, saying, “He was always helping people when he was alive, and he’s still saving lives.”
Sure, Yanks & Sox fans don’t like each other. But to resort to vehicular manslaughter? Memo, people - it’s just a game. It shouldn’t be a matter of life & death.
