It’s been a rough couple months for Yankee fans. First, they’ve had to endure the slow death that has been their team’s performance to wrap the season. And now they’re faced with an even more difficult dilemma.
No, I’m not talking about retooling the team’s rapidly-fossilizing roster. Instead, Yankee fans must decide if they want to spend tens of thousands on tickets at the club’s new ballpark. Or drop the same amount on a line of spiffy new watches from Derek Jeter.
The Movado watch company this month has rolled out a series of Jeter-endorsed timepieces. My favorite is undoubtedly the “800 Derek Jeter Chronograph.”
From VIA LUXE: “this self-winding watch presents a 47mm case with sapphire crystals on both sides, a black dial with silver subdials and rose gold-colored accents, and an alligator strap with a rose gold deployant buckle. Jeter’s name and team number decorate the edge of the caseback, and the 18K central winding mass also bears the player’s number.”
Retail price: $25,000 (must be the exclusive “rose gold deployant buckle“)
Now, that doesn’t mean Jeter hasn’t thought of the less fortunate among patrons of the pinstripes. He’s also got watches available for a mere $7,700 and the paltry sum of $1,700 - which coincidentally, I think, will get you into one pair of box seats for a Yankee-Royals game next May.
The good news: Yankee fans will have plenty of time on their hands to ponder decisions of such import.
