At a press conference today for the PGA Tour’s Players Championship in Ponte Vedra, Florida, Tiger Woods denied that a set of irons previously listed on eBay by former director of tour operations for Titleist Steve Mata for $250,000 are the same set of clubs he used to win his “Tiger Slam” during 2000-2001.
“He may have a set of my irons, but they’re not from those tournaments. They’re in my garage. I don’t know where they’re from, but the sets that I won all four major championships with, they’re in my house.”
Mata’s had made the previous eBay claims:
* Clubs in orginal [sic] shape and grips are original grips used the last time the clubs were used by Tiger.
* Used by Tiger in his “Tiger Slam”.
* Given directly to seller by Tiger.
* Certificate of Authenticity
Mata, who claimed he received the clubs from Woods “as a personal gift,” removed the listing on Monday.
Even if the clubs aren’t from the “Tiger Slam”, is it unreasonable to think that Woods bought the clubs back from Mata
