I realize that I’m pretty lucky because I have a girlfriend who enjoys watching sports just as much as I do. I never have to worry about missing a game because the woman wants to watch “Grey’s Anatomy” or wants me to take her out to dinner. I don’t have to worry about turning the volume down on a game while she’s trying to sleep either, because if the game’s on, she’s up watching it too. So I don’t have to worry about it affecting our relationship, or possibly having her kill me.
For one man in Dallas, this was not the case. Last December 14th, the Dallas Cowboys were playing the New York Giants on “Sunday Night Football” when Charles Shanks watched the game from home. His wife, Kimberly Shanks, wanted to go to bed but Charles had the volume on too high for her to fall asleep. She asked him to turn it down, but he refused, and that left her only one option - stab him, hit him over the head with a rock, and then stab him again.
From the DALLAS MORNING NEWS:
Shanks admitted to killing her husband at their home in the 1400 block of Lone Star Court on Dec. 14 after he turned up the volume of a Dallas Cowboys game “knowing it would keep her awake,” the Star Community Newspapers Web site reported, citing court documents.
The newspaper reported that Shanks told police she went into the kitchen for medication but grabbed a knife instead and “tried to stick the knife in his heart.”
She ran out of the house but returned with a landscaping rock from a neighbor’s yard. She went inside to find her husband on the kitchen floor and she hit him on the back of the head with the rock to make sure he was knocked out. She also stabbed him in the back to make sure he was dead, the newspaper reported. She said she was afraid he would kill her.
Well, that’s ironic. She was afraid he’d kill her but she ended up killing him. Hilarious.
Kimberly says that her husband and her had been fighting, and that he was constantly abusing her mentally. She also said he refused her request for a divorce. So really, after calling her names, refusing a divorce and not turning down the volume what else could she do?
I mean, she tried everything.
