JOB IN BASEBALL BROADCAST BOOTH JUST ONE BID AWAY: How does one break into sports broadcasting?
Well, it usually starts with 4 years of college, as you trudge your way toward a communications degree. Then, it’s your first field assignment in a small media market. Gradually, through years of hard work and dedication, you move up the ranks to secure your top spot in the booth.
Or, you can just win an eBay auction.
The Arizona Winter League is offering one lucky Phil Rizzuto wannabe the chance to do play-by-play for all 33 of their games this season. All games will be broadcast over the Internet, with a few possibly on the radio and TV, “once the media deals are final.”
And no need to worry about travel expenses - all games will be played at Desert Sun Stadium in scenic Yuma, Arizona. Well, at least it’ll be warm.
The winning bidder will be provided hotel and meals, plus a chance to sell commercial airtime. Best of all, you’ll be the emcee for the season-ending awards banquet at the Cocopah Casino. Better hit the buffet line quickly!
All you aspiring Harry Carays and Joe Morgans have until September 27 to get your Vin Scully on. With an opening bid of $500, it’s still anybody’s game.
As of this writing, there’s no takers so far.
