prdascm…i thought the idea of betting was to win money, rather than to make some statement about being able to afford losing the amount you bet.

Even though he can afford to lose the money if he chose to light up cigars with $100 bills, Phil Ivey I would bet doesn’t do that. You’re logic doesn’t hold water.

why would espn do a piece on a poker player? makes no sense.

Also I love how fezzik called the Colts frauds before their game with Ravens but bets them big in the Superbowl.

Ivey is beyond one of the best poker players in history and is a pretty decent dice shooter. He was given extra shares in Full Tilt Poker for finding the original financier, those shares are worth somewhere between 11-13M per month.

His bet this year doesn’t even compare to the beat he took on last year’s Super Bowl. Taking Arizona in the first half for 800k was a good idea until Werner threw that pick in the last minute and the Steelers covered. And Ivey is the best all around poker player in the world, both high stakes mixed cash games and tournaments (when he takes them seriously).

Why is everyone hating on Phil?

This is exactly right:

Ivey won 2 bracelets and final tabled the Main Event in last year’s world series of poker. This is an unbelievable feat for any poker player.
