White Sox GM Cackles at Cubs’ 100-yr Anniversary

Good to see the Cubs-White Sox rivalry remains just as spiteful as ever. The latest shot comes from Ken Williams, as the White Sox GM takes a few jabs at the guys up north.

Ken Williams White Sox GM

Joe Cowley of the SUN-TIMES catches Williams making mention of the Cubs’ century of World Series futility, while his club can at least claim two titles in the past 100 years. And Ken does so in the most endearing way possible, referring to the Sox’s title won in 2005:

”The unfortunate thing for me is it’s a shame that a certain segment of Chicago refused to enjoy a baseball championship being brought to their city. The only thing I can say is, ‘Happy anniversary.”’

Ba-zing! However, harboring such stern feelings could hurt Williams’ job choices down the road, in case things go south for the South Siders. But Ken coughs at the idea of ever seeking employment with the Cubs:

”That would be a betrayal,” Williams said before a long pause. ”God, I would really, really have to need the job. Oh, wow, really need the job.”

With the wacky way things are run in Major League Baseball, don’t be surprised if you see Kenny clearing up some office space at 1060 W. Addison in the next few seasons.

It cracks me up as to how Cub fans just brush aside the White Sox title, like if they won it in 05, it would be irrelevant a few years later. Pah-lease. Cub fans are jaded.
