Weeded Out: Busted Bears Asleep At Drive-Thru

KYTX-TV reports today that hours after the Bears routed Kansas 55-7 Saturday night, Baylor football players Willie Jefferson and Josh Gordon were arrested on drug charges by Waco Police.

While anyone can understand players celebrating a victory over the Jayhawk football team into the wee morning hours, Jefferson and Gordon made a grave mistake in attempting to get their grub on at 2:15am on Sunday morning at the local Taco Bell drive-thru.

Police report that while he was waiting for his food in the drive-thru lane at the restaurant, Jefferson fell asleep in the driver’s seat of a car. Then the fun began:

Police responded to the call of a passed-out man in the drive-thru lane at 2:15 Sunday morning and upon arrival found both players in the vehicle, along with a bag of marijuana in the center console. After searching further they uncovered additional bags in the driver side floorboard.

Both Jefferson and Gordon were brought to McLennan County Jail where they posted $1000 bonds.

Baylor football coach Art Briles has yet to comment on the matter.

It’s been a tough week for Baylor sports as Tuesday Baylor hoops star LaceDarius Dunn was arrested and charged with felony domestic assault after his girlfriend initially claimed on Sept. 27 that he broke her jaw.

Despite police documenting the woman’s subsequent surgery, she’s now denying Dunn hit her and that her jaw was ever broken.

UPDATE: The ASSOCIATED PRESS reports Thursday:

Two Baylor football players, including one of its top receivers, have been cited on misdemeanor marijuana possession charges.

Baylor coach Art Briles was monitoring the situation but not commenting on it, Bears spokesman Heath Nielsen said Thursday. It was unknown whether Jefferson and Gordon will play in the Bears’ game Saturday against Texas Tech in Dallas.

The misdemeanor is punishable by up to six months in jail and a fine of up to $2,000.

Meanwhile KWTX-TV has some news that may complicate Jefferson’s situation:

Jefferson, a former All State high school athlete from Beaumont, has been arrested for possession before.

Both players have played in all five games for Baylor this season. Wide receiver Gordon has 14 catches for 327 yards and four touchdowns. Tight end Jefferson has one catch, a 43-yard touchdown grab.
