It’s easy to understand Ricky Rubio’s reluctance to leave the sun, style and nightlife of Spain for Minnesota. But when UNC’s Wayne Ellington said he was hoping to be drafted by his hometown 76ers, I did a double take. Wayne! Anyone who even survives 18 years in Philly is blessed. Why do you want to go back?
Above would be exhibits A and B. That’s Wayne’s girlfriend, a 19-year-old college student in Philadelphia, and suddenly his desire to stay close to home seems a little less crazy.
Amanda Altschuler is a student at Drexel, which blows my mind. I went to Temple, not a school known for the charms of its female student body. But we always knew that bad as it was, our women were better than Drexel’s. We were led to believe the Dragons were all engineering nerds. We were all horrible misled.
Of being passed on by the 76ers, Ellington said: “My girlfriend goes to Drexel, so she wanted me to stay local, as did my family. I’m not upset at all, though. This is a blessing.”
Sucks now to leave her, Wayne, but you’re an NBA player. You’ll forget about her the first time you see the cloud of women hovering outside your team hotel.
For some reason, which I can’t quite put my finger on, Altschuler reminds me of the girl (erroneously) identified as Tim Tebow’s girlfriend:

she has a bad reputation at drexel. the sex only lasts so long. wayne needs a better woman. she thinks she will sex him into marriage. she wants money and thats it. he will see the quality of women and meet celebrities. she cries b/c she knows he will move on to something better. wayne will make the right decision and find class and not busted ass.
