Warriors Sign Maggette, Capture A Clipper After All

Having lost out on the Elton Brand sweepstakes, the Golden State Warriors still seemed determined to lure away at least one Los Angeles Clipper in revenge for the Baron Davis debacle. And the Bay Area club has apparently accomplished their mission by capturing Corey Maggette.

Corey Maggette

Janny Hu of the SAN FRANCISCO CHRONICLE reports that the Warriors have reached an agreement to sign Maggette to a 5-year, $50 million deal - or about $40 million less than they were offering to Elton.

Still, the deal will be a bit costly to Golden State in other ways:

Maggette’s signing is expected to take up close to half of the Warriors’ available cap space, which likely pushes them out of the running for any upper-tier free agents remaining on the market.

So, the Warriors’ wheelin’ & dealin’ appears to be done for the moment.

Maggette also mentions to the LOS ANGELES TIMES that he asked the Clippers if they would match the Warriors’ offer, and they said no. Good to see that Donald Sterling still has that penny-pinching touch - the Davis deal had us worried for a sec.

First Elton ejects, and now Corey quits the Clips. Will Baron have any new teammates left?
