The crown jewel of Lane Kiffin’s 2009 recruiting class at the Univ. of Tennessee, sophomore running back Bryce Brown, has reportedly told Vols Coach Derek Dooley that he is leaving the team.
Knoxville WNML-AM radio host Jimmy Hyams reports that Brown skipped a scheduled meeting today with Dooley that was reportedly to decide his future with the program. Hyams added that Brown later sent Dooley a text saying he won’t return to the Volunteers.
Josh Ward of the KNOXVILLE NEWS-SENTINEL reported Tuesday:
Brown’s father was “ballistic” that Bryce wasn’t man enough to tell Dooley to his face that he’s leaving. Brown left town.
John Adams of the KNOXVILLE NEWS-SENTINEL also noted Brown’s awkward departure:
Running back Bryce Brown has left the University of Tennessee without leaving any closure behind.
“Bryce left town without a face-to-face request (with UT football coach Derek Dooley) for a transfer,” a school official told the News Sentinel on Tuesday evening. “There’s still no news on where he wants to go.”
Before the news of Brown’s departure was reported, Dooley addressed the matter at a Rotary Club luncheon in Knoxville earlier today.
“I said in February that I was open to Bryce coming back on the condition that he wanted to unpack his bags and put his heart into this program. I fully expect Bryce not to be on our team.
“The reason it has continued on is because Bryce has not come to me, looked me in the eye and said I want a release to so and so school. At some point, that’s got to happen.”
Now it appears that scenario may never play out.

I believe Randy Shannon recognized this guy would eventually self destruct. I think this kid has some serious issues and the sooner TN lets him go, the better for that school. Maybe he’ll go to USC now. Kiffin deserves it.

Respectable schedule, my ass…as usual, Boise plays 1 or 2 good teams and the remainder would have a hard time making the I-AA playoffs. Thankfully, VT will put Boise out of contention in week 1 so we won’t have to listen to ESPN prop up this farce of a team for national championship consideration so they can get a few more viewers on Monday or Tuesday night or whenever the hell it is that Boise plays Southwestern Montana State and the Idaho School for the Blind in front of 25000 screaming fan on their pathetic blue field.
