Vince McMahon Not Taking Rusty Hardin’s Advice

You may have heard or seen this week that the commissioners of the major professional sports leagues were back in front of Congress (again?!) to try to explain what their leagues were doing to control the use of steroids and other PEDs.

Lee Terry

One of the “commissioners” invited to speak was the WWE’s Vince McMahon. That apparently means members of congress consider pro wrestling to be a major league professional sport. And of course, they’re dead-on!

We all know the WWE’s long vainglorious past with steroid-addled *athletes*, so it should come as no surprise that McMahon ducked the the appearance, claiming his lawyer already had a previous commitment.

The OMAHA WORLD-JOURNAL amusingly reports that Nebraska Republican Representative Lee Terry was shocked that McMahon would not want to make a Roger Clemens-esque appearance (see nothing to gain) and allow people like Terry to further assassinate him in the court of public opinion.

“Subcommittee Chairman Bobby Rush, D-Ill., said he was disappointed that McMahon had turned down an invitation to appear at the hearing.

Then Terry jumped into the ring and sought to put a congressional body slam on the absent, muscle-bound wrestling magnate.

“Mr. Chairman, you rightfully called out Vince McMahon,” Terry said during the hearing. “Someone that flips his finger at this committee or at Congress deserves to be called out.”

Terry went on to call pro wrestlers “physical freaks” and said he didn’t allow his children to watch WWE productions.

Vince McMahon WWE Freaks

We lean to Terry on his opinions about wrestling. But the bigger issues are why McMahon was invited to speak alongside the runners of legitimate major sports operations. And why people like Terry feel the need to grandstand over the mind-numbingly obvious - while we pay for it.

Maybe it’s just he hasn’t gotten over the Callahan thing. Hang in there, partner.

That would be the Omaha World-Herald. I know that stuff is hard to look up.
