After a confrontation with Falcons Head Coach Mike Smith and Falcons strength coach Jeff Fish during today’s Falcons-Redskins game, Redskins defensive back DeAngelo Hall said he planned to “get on the horn” with Roger Goodell and that there “needs to be repercussions” for what the Atlanta staffers did. Hall, from the ASSOCIATED PRESS:
(Did Mike Smith deck DeAngelo Hall?)
I’m going to get on the horn with commissioner Goodell, and we’re going to figure out a way how to nip this in the bud. It’s different with me coming in trying to break stuff up, and as a strength coach, if you coming at me and you’re trying to get (expletive) licks, that ain’t how you do things.
They need to have some repercussions, and something needs to happen to them, too. I’m definitely going to get on the phone with some of my guys up there, and we’re going to try to figure out a way to nip this thing in the bud.
The incident stemmed from Hall jumping into an altercation on the Falcons sideline following a late hit on Atlanta QB Matt Ryan by Hall’s Redskin teammate LaRon Landry.
Video and Hall’s comments after the jump.
CSNWashington.com has the video of Hall’s comments. Here’s a taste:
It’s different when a coach comes over there to break guys up. When a coach comes over there to put his hands on you in a harmful way, something needs to be done about that. I’m going to call Commissioner Goodell.
Ray Anderson used to be with Atlanta. I know him very well from there. He’s the vice president (of football operations) over there in the league office. I’ll definitely going to be calling some of my friends to figure out what we can do about the situation.
(Smith) put his hands on me in a harmful way, talking about how he’s going to kick my (expletive) and all this other (expletive), and that ain’t how you do things. It’s a different story if he’s coming in there to break a fight up.
It’s a different thing when you come in and try to break things up, as opposed to coming in and trying to put your hands on somebody. Fish had the nerve to signal to me on the sideline how strong he is. Because he was putting his hands on me, pushing me, you know what I mean? Pushing and grabbing at me and all this other (expletive). Like I said, something is going to be done about it. Trust me.
If you watch the video, it’s hard to tell if Smith intentionally put his hands on Hall, but there were definitely words exchanged. And yes, Fish did grab Hall and appeared to give him a rather pointed piece of his mind. But in the end, both confrontations were harmless. Wish I could say the same for Landry’s hit on Ryan.
If he did curse or threaten Hall, Smith shouldn’t have reacted that way to a player. But given the situation: QB late hit, Hall as a former Falcon malcontent - I don’t blame Smith one iota for venting. In fact, I think 99% of the viewing public enjoyed ever second. Including Redskins fans.
Hall is on an island. Obviously doesn’t know it yet. But he will, eventually.

Landry can’t watch the sideline perfectly going 25 miles an hour with his eye on another professional athlete trained to be elusive. It’s football and it was a late hit and a flag. What? Once again, Brooks makes the sanctimonious and overly indignant/heroic read on a total non-event. Take off the shawl and granny glasses Brooks and get back to being a sports/hot girls fan like before. We’re all hoping you make a comeback.

Dan-
It wasn’t a non-event because the punk of the century had to get involved. That reaction is only one of the many reasons the Falcons chose to part ways with a trouble maker who thinks he’s the best. He has no control over his emotions and never has. Hall is an immature punk………period.

Gimme a break. Landry does this same play at least once a game (late hit out of bounds). It might be nice if he did his job and broke up passes and not try to be a human missle looking to kill somebody every play. Another waste of a high draft pick who can’t play for the ‘Skins.

I’m sorry but I saw that live on TV and immediately wished I could run down there myself. That hit was WAY late.

Just another Virginia Tech thug. Like Michael, Marcus Vick - these people are SUB human. We need to put them in jail cells for life. Get them off the streets. Their IQs are below 100, they can’t create a simple sentence, don’t know nouns/vowels. They are a disgrace to all. Another great turnout from Virginia Tech. Frank Beamer just heads on down to Hampton Roads, Virginia each year with a schoolbus, empties the prison and puts them in maroon/orange uniform. His buddy, LunchCan Foster does a meet and greet with lunchpails for all - rather than a book. It’s the only school in America that gives a lunchpail rather than a degree.

Hall blew a few games for the Falcons due to his lack of composure during a game so its really hard to believe hjs involvement in this were as noble as he says, but he has always run his mouth better than he’s played. What a joke.

Coach Smiths late hit was the only good hit on that play
