Video: High School Football Bounce Pass For TD

Couple-three weeks ago, I posted a behind the back high school football touchdown pass. Now, howsa ’bout a football bounce pass that goes for a score?

Football Bounce Pass

Brad Heap of Mountain View (AZ) High School throws a bounce pass behind the line of scrimmage against Rocky Mountain High School (ID) to receiver Baue Stapley. Stapely then throws a touchdown passĀ  to D.J. Geroux.

Video after the jump.

As long as the football is a lateral, the play is legal. Why they needed a bounce, I don’t know. Then again, I wouldn’t have posted it if they hadn’t done that. Well-played, chaps.

I think the bounce confused the other team into thinking it was an incomplete pass. It looked like a couple of guys could have pummeled #5 if they had wanted to, but they held up, maybe thinking the play was dead . . .

The bounce is to confuse the DB into thinking it’s an incomplete pass and doesn’t tackle the WR before the second pass.

Nebraska did it against OU back in the 80’s, Turner Gill bounces to Irving Fryar who passed it to TE Mitch Krenk

Any idea what that was… 3rd and 18 or something like that? Cause thats a pretty risky play.

I’m sure the assholes who make the rules at all levels of football will outlaw this play posthaste, because it “isn’t fair” to the defense or some such bullsh*t.

As an alumnus of the High School, I’m not sure whether to be proud or ashamed. At least it wasn’t late in the game.

How is this fair to the defense at all? With refs these days throwing flags at the slightest unsportsmanlikes and the fact that the WO is completely unprepared to be tackled and thus at high risk for injury, unless you know the exact play being run you can’t expect anyone on D to make that tackle before the pass.

Anyway, my favorite part is the gropefest going on in the background at :23

This play has been around for years. & well played by the refs on making the right call. Don’t hear that often these days!

Tom Osborne of Nebraska was the person who first came up with this play. The play was not used against OU it was first used by Nebraska in the 1983 Orange Bowl against Miami. Neb lost 31-30 in what is regarded as the most exciting bowl game of all time.

Tom Osborne was not the first person who came up with this play. My high school in Wisconsin used this play during the 60’s and 70’s to full advantage. We didn’t used very much at all, but when we did, it always went for a touchdown.
