Cal running back Jahvid Best made an ugly landing on his neck after an unbelievable leap over an Oregon State defender for a touchdown tonight.
Best was attended to by doctors for a prolonged period on the field before being immobilized on a stretcher.
The AP reports:
Best’s helmet came off on impact. He vaulted into the air over safety Cameron Collins. Paramedics removed his jersey and Best was on oxygen when carted away.
Not a good sign. Hopefully oxygen is precautionary.
Video after the jump.
I’ll be following news about his condition thoroughout the evening. Goes without saying that our thoughts are with Best at the moment.
UPDATE: The ASSOCIATED PRESS reports:
Best had movement in all of his extremities, Cal spokesman Herb Benenson said. Benenson also said that a preliminary evaluation showed Best sustained a concussion, but more tests were being done before a final diagnosis would be announced by the school.

Hopes and prayers that he recovers and returns soon.

He’ll be fine. Just got the uber wind knocked out of him. As long as he didn’t fracture/herniate a disc, the way he landed, didn’t really cause any worry of spinal compression. Concussion with cervical soft tissue sprain most likely. It won’t be the last we see of Jahvid Best.

Lord, watch over and protect this young man and the mass the play sports as injury can be serious. We play, cheer, watch in enjoyment but you are the only one Lord.

Say what?
I can’t stand it when people don’t thank the doctors, they thank god. God didn’t go to school for 8 years, take residency for another 3-4, become a fellow, and eventually diagnose and treat your problems.
Anyway…
