Things are going just fine at Washington, thanks for asking. So says head coach Tyrone Willingham, according to the SEATTLE TIMES, despite the team’s 0-4 start. No reason to panic, and no reason to start talking about replacing the head coach at midseason. Right guys? Right?!?Also, Willingham thinks economy is “just fine” and that Ishtar “really wasn’t that bad.”
Willingham remains optimistic about the team, despite another woefol start for the Huskies and, as the SEATTLE POST-INTELLIGENCER reports, the general crankiness and frustration of the coaching staff, and the fact that the Huskies named a new athletic director two weeks ago, never a good sign for an underachieving coach already firmly on the hot seat.
For his part, new Washington AD Scott Woodward gave Willingham a vote of confidence that was just a bit shy of “total”:
Woodward left the door open slightly for an in-season change, saying that “you never say never.” But when asked what could lead to one, he said, “There are too many hypotheticals to go down that road, but I don’t foresee it.”
But there’s good news on the horizon: the Huskies’ defensive backfield might be getting a some needed depth in the next few weeks. The bad news is that it would come at the expense of the quarterback position.
The SEATTLE POST-INTELLIGENCER reports that starting QB Jake Locker, expected to be sidelined 6-8 weeks with a broken thumb suffered in last week’s loss to Stanford, would be OK with playing another position such as safety, where he played in high school. Because that’s exactly what you want: your one good offensive player running around on defense with a bum hand, trying to hit someone.
I really want to like Tyrone Willingham - he seems like a decent person who wants to win the right way. But although the Huskies were in a bad way when he took them over, there’s no reason why they can’t be part of the discussion of teams looking to dethrone USC rather than being a Pac-10 bottom feeder. Can anyone give a good reason why Ty shouldn’t be let go at the end of this season - if not sooner?

because he's afro-american and affirmative action makes it difficult for employers to fire afro-americans without threat of a lawsuit. It's the reason we see so few black coaches… Not because they're not qualified or because of prejudice, but because of the law. Just keeping it real people.
