Twin Wishes Marilyn Monroe Happy Mother’s Day

A Twins player belted two home runs Sunday night, helping lead Minnesota to a 9-8 win over Boston. And after one of his fence-clearers, he turned to the ESPN cameras and wished a happy Mother’s Day to Marilyn Monroe.

Craig Monroe Marilyn Monroe

Wait - What?

Kelsie Smith of the ST. PAUL PIONEER PRESS explains that DH Craig Monroe was just giving a greeting to his mom watching the game at home, and she happens to be named Marilyn.

And Craig was happy to celebrate Mom’s special day in his own special way:

“She’s my biggest support. My mom, she’s the best. Maybe (it was) a little much saying, ‘Happy Mother’s Day’ to her on camera, but you know, it’s emotions. It’s who I am, and so it makes me feel good to do something special.”

Monroe’s daily double now gives him four home runs on the season. Where did he get his sudden motivation, besides wanting to honor dear ol’ mama?

BUGS & CRANKS suggests Craig could have been riled up by some fans ridiculing him - by offering him peanuts?

This is what passes for major league heckling these days? Nuts to that.
