A 20-year-old walk-on kicker at Tulane University died Thursday in his hometown of Gonzales, Louisiana. Drew Villar, a freshman at Tulane, was a three-sport athlete at East Ascension High School in Gonzales before walking on with the Green Wave.
He also led his peers as class president for four years and received a legislative scholarship. Message boards supporting Tulane immediately expressed grief and spoke glowingly about a player whose impact was larger off the field than on.
No formal cause of death has been named, though NEWORLEANS.COM forwards reports that an aneurysm as a likely cause.
