Well this should put that big underage drinking bust at Notre Dame in perspective. Mike Golic’s son may be in some trouble for having the audacity to drink during his freshman year of college, but at least he survived the incident.
The same cannot be said for William L. Smith. Smith is the nephew of University of Minnesota head basketball coach, Tubby Smith, and he was attending an off-campus party near Becker College in Worcester, Mass. A fight broke out between Smith and some other uninvited guests, and it ended with a fatal stabbing.
From THE STAR-TRIBUNE:
Worcester police said a fight broke out in an off-campus apartment near Becker College, where Smith had just transferred a few weeks ago, and spilled outside, according to officials at the school. Police said the fight began when “uninvited guests” refused to leave the party.
Smith was stabbed once in the chest and another victim was also wounded. He was pronounced dead at 2:45 a.m. at the University of Massachusetts Memorial Medical Center, University Campus. No arrests have been made.
Normally this is where I’d make some low-brow joke about the text I just quoted, but given the situation, I think I’m going to pass on it this time. Instead, we here at SbB would like to extend our thoughts and condolences to Tubby and his family.
William was only 19 years old and had just transferred to the school in hopes of playing on the basketball team.
