Gee whiz, has it been two years already since America’s (least) Favorite Couple, Tony Romo and Jessica Simpson, first charmed the nation/horrified Cowboys fans with their whimsical romantic entanglements? Yes, sadly, it just about has.

Since that time, Simpson has gone from semi-relevant pop starlet to plumped-up wannabe country singer, but Romo seemed committed through it all. He put up with her vapid blank stares in the stands, her embarrassing public comments about their relationship, and her withering career prospects. But as it turns out, even Tony Romo has a breaking point. That’s right, huge NFL news today, folks - Tony and Jessica are no more.

Tony Romo broke up with Jessica Simpson on Thursday, the night before her 29th birthday, a source close to the pop star tells PEOPLE.

“She is heartbroken,” a source tells People. “She loves Tony. But it’s been difficult lately. He’s busy with his career and she’s getting ready to shoot her show (The Price of Beauty). They decided to part ways.”

In the two years that Romo has (maybe) been monogamous, a whole new generation of pop tarts have hit the stage. Just think, entire seasons of ‘American Idol’ have come and gone without feeling Romo’s affection. If Cowboys fans resented Romo for paying too much attention to his social life while he was with Simpson, just wait until he starts making up for lost time. Just remember, Tony, Miley Cyrus is off limits for another 498 days. Not that we’re counting.
