If you’re looking for an edge in the election, the GAINESVILLE SUN reminds nominees that Florida quarterback Tim Tebow won’t be handing out his Gator Chomp of Approval.
Candidates vying for national and local offices have approached the Heisman-winning quarterback for his endorsement, but has decided to stay neutral on all of them. He’s not even backing anyone for UF’s student government. Or maybe he’s like every other co-ed and merely voting for his friends.
As a UF athletic spokesman said, “He’s focused on his priorities: God, family, academics and the Gators, and (he) just thought that people should do their research and make their decision with what’s in their heart.” It doesn’t sound like Tebow even cares about politics, which is a telltale sign that Tebow is, in fact, 20 years old.
Even if he did have an active interest in the political process, it’s probably for the best Tebow stay neutral in this, an election year. Well, there’s that, and then there’s the fear that if a student-athlete makes a verbal agreement with a politician through the vessel of a handshake, simultaneous Drudge sirens will go off in the offices Myles Brand and John Feingold. And nobody wants that.
