Saturday Tiger Woods was inducted into the Stanford sports hall of fame. As part of his induction, Woods gave a speech from midfield of Stanford Stadium at halftime of the Cal-Stanford game. That’s where he got a surprising, extremely vocal response from the fans in attendance.
(Reception so rude that Tiger stopped speech)
The boos were so loud that Woods actually had to stop in the middle of his remarks - as he was clearly taken aback by the reax.
The boos most likely came from Cal fans, who made the trip to The Farm from over the Bay Bridge. But even with that knowledge, Woods still was left somewhat aghast.
Understandable when you consider we’re watching the most famous athlete in the world most likely getting booed for the first time in his life.
Also ironic when you consider that if Tiger was ever going to get booed, it would’ve been on this previous occasion.

I too would boo Tiger after his club-throwing hissy-fit last week. What a prick.
1:31 pm on November 23rd, 2009
Awesome. TOTALLY AWESOME.
Tiger’s a douche. A extremely talented douche, but a douche none the less.
1:33 pm on November 23rd, 2009
Why didn’t Steve Williams go into the stands and punch out all the Cal fans?
1:40 pm on November 23rd, 2009
They’re saying “booo-Woods”, sir.
1:46 pm on November 23rd, 2009
Its been well documented that Tiger treated people like crap at Stanford, he never supported his fellow classmates, and never gave anything back to the school, he never helped any one, he was always for himself.
Who was so clueless, that they thought people would love to see him back at Stanford, no one saw him when he was there.
Its like when Kobe went back to Philly for the all-star break, they hate him there. for the same reasons
1:55 pm on November 23rd, 2009
I think that’s the first pic where I’ve seen him wear Stanford gear - they probably had to pay him to do it. Surprised the a**hole didn’t throw the mic. stand.
1:55 pm on November 23rd, 2009
Who is this guy? Was he a quaterback or something?
2:10 pm on November 23rd, 2009
F. that guy….worst tipper in the world and most inflated sense of self-entitlement.
2:13 pm on November 23rd, 2009
Maybe it was waiters and waitresses booing. He’s supposed to be the worst tipper in the Western world…Or maybe they were booing his choice of caddy who’s seriously in the running for the biggest douche in the world…
2:54 pm on November 23rd, 2009
All the people who boo’d him are waiters…
2:55 pm on November 23rd, 2009
You mean Nike let him wear something in public without their logo on it? Gotta be a mistake. Bet the pic is Photo-shopped.
3:35 pm on November 23rd, 2009
Waiters? Attending a Cal/Stanford game? Yeah, the stands must be full of alumni and students who have been, or are, waiters. The only waiters at that game are in sky boxes serving drinks and snacks; if the have sky boxes. I hope Michele Wie remembers this if she’s ever asked to be part of a public event at Stanford gathering.
3:45 pm on November 23rd, 2009
I don’t like him either…
3:47 pm on November 23rd, 2009
Tiger has to understand there are some people the media hype and commercialization of his soul bounces off … like… a golf ball…

If I was Tiger…I wouldn’t give a ____!!!!!! Got a hot wife and all the money in the world….
4:32 pm on November 23rd, 2009
Tiger > fake media (bloggers) who make up stories of him throwing a club at people…
sure he’s fine actually be known by people as opposed to, “hey I’m popular cuz people follow me on twitter”…gay
4:33 pm on November 23rd, 2009
Eh, I was there, it seemed like it was Cal fans booing, or at least the ones around me were. Then again, they booed any time somebody wearing red appeared on the Jumbotron, regardless of their purpose.
5:32 pm on November 23rd, 2009
whose kid is he holding?
6:10 pm on November 23rd, 2009
It’s interesting that Stanford invited Tiger Woods to speak, as he’s a college dropout. He never graduated from Stanford. And Cal fans were yelling “This is football” as in, “who gives a shit about a stanfurdite drop-out golfer?”
8:38 pm on November 23rd, 2009
you must be all leftys as in washington!
8:41 pm on November 23rd, 2009
Yep, he’s selfish. Never does anything for anyone but himself.
He’s rich and not liberal. That means he must be an evil capitalist who doesn’t care about the little people he’s stepped-on on the way up the ladder.
It’s not like he had to work hard and earn his money and was handed everything. Much unlike, say the Kennedy’s who were by no means evil, elitist capitalists who worked hard for their money and weren’t handed a single thing.
Oh yeah here’s one example of him being a do-no-gooder:http://www.nativetimes.com/index.php?option=com_content&view=article&id=2325:notah-begay-golf-tourney-raises-more-than-1-million&catid=38&Itemid=13
9:42 pm on November 23rd, 2009
Brooks, stop covering stories 2nd hand. ‘Left somewhat aghast’? He stopped talking and backed away from the mic… he lost it, didn’t know what to do because everyone kisses his rear. Game over. They won.
@RoB68, I don’t think this has to do with politics. I bet many others ripping him are indy/conservative like me. He’s a spoiled punk who’s Dad made him into a golf robot.
9:42 pm on November 23rd, 2009
I was at the game, and I lustily booed his wankitude.
Quintessential.
Stanford.
Douche.
10:59 pm on November 23rd, 2009
As always, Cal people have no class. Tiger has been away too long in the polite world of professional golf. At the end of any Big Game, we still have the Stanford degrees, or en route to gaining them for current students.
Next year that Axe, which has OUR name on it, will return.
Cheers!
12:19 am on November 24th, 2009
Tiger Woods made over $100 million last year and your wasting your life away calling him names on the internet. Who’s the douche/prick/bad tipper etc?
2:21 am on November 24th, 2009
I was at the game. We booed him. Big deal. Don’t make it bigger than it is. Go Cal. We kicked.
2:29 am on November 24th, 2009
James: At the end of any Big Game, we still have the Stanford degrees, or en route to gaining them for current students.
Except for Tiger, who will only get one if they give him an honorary. Pompous ass.
6:05 am on November 24th, 2009
Tiger woods is the bomb, not perfect, but the bomb. All you folks thinking and saying nasty things about him are pathetic.
7:53 am on November 24th, 2009
For a person of mixed race, he is certainly not humble with his fame. The more I see him, with his arrogance, and unsportsmanlike behavior, the more I turn off.
Golf is overrated anyway. I saw a documentary on the rigors of being a golf “athlete” and almost died laughing. Mr. Nike had a knee injury, and he was portrayed as a Dick Butkus-like warrior for the sport of golf. The media is getting out of hand, and guys like Woods laugh all the way to the bank.
8:11 am on November 24th, 2009
WOW! I think at the end of the day it comes down to this. Both Cal and Stanford suck and it is quite hilarious that Tiger, while he did not get a degree from either university, is classier, richer, and probably smarter then any grad from either place. Suck on that for a while you arrogant pac-10 ‘tards.
8:13 am on November 24th, 2009
Tiqueer is a douchbag, hell I play golf and trust me that doesnt make me an athlete> However that being said I weighed 160 in school and could hit a 90 mph fastball and run a 6.8 60. Now that is being athletic not walking around some golf course while your caddy asks what color when you say “shit boy!” I hardly think that he has the ability of a “true” athlete. Its kind of like NASCAR….another “sport” please make 4 left turns 600 times in 3 hrs and they are super athletes….my ass…..
9:58 am on November 24th, 2009
All you lame-o’s complaining about Tiger.
A: Stanford is sponsored by Nike so no problems there
B: Tiger has been the single largest alumni contributor from his class since he graduated… which isn’t a minor point because this is Stanford
C: How is the guy selfish when he’s built institutes for underprivileged children to learn. Donates more than 15% of his income to charity and has a hot Swedish model wife.
10:54 am on November 24th, 2009
You know it’s funny reading all of these so called insightful bloggers who have such a negative opinion of one of the most talented athletes of our time. If you’ve ever played golf in your life then you ought to know just how hard that game really is. Anbody can run straight and fast, that’s common talent. Hitting a golf ball where you want it go consistently is another talent all together. To read these well thought out complaints about someone elses talent and wealth says just one thing, your mad at yourself cause your not as talented as he is. Maybe your dads should have spent more time with you all and taken an interest in what you did. But don’t blame Tiger for maximizing his talent. He paid the price, put in the work and it paid off. What would happen if we all worked as hard at what we do as does Tiger? To Tiger, man keep doing your thing. And take a lesson from Jay-Z and “brush that dirt off your shoulder” cause that’s what haters deserve.
10:56 am on November 24th, 2009
The media sucks!
11:54 am on November 24th, 2009
Is Tiger smart enough to hear the wake up call. Stop throwing things, shut up and spend more time signing autographs. Try to be a real person. Nobody can be the greatest if you don’t have it all!
1:13 pm on November 24th, 2009
CHRIS, sounds like you were a special athlete, especially (or even?) at 160. What?
2:39 pm on November 24th, 2009
I would to suggest that people don’t understand that Mr. Wood help a lot unfortunate kids espicially in californian which he has a learning center for the kids. About the comment and booing of Stanford student we thought that stanford student has manners or good manners & right conduct. We hope that stanford student should look first there selfs, we thought that the standard of that university is high and have a good student, but the students are discreminating for a spoke person which been invited to speak on that unuversity,we hope that all the student s has to learn a good attitude for guest speaker.
2:56 pm on November 24th, 2009
James: That reminds me of the time I had to kick a Stanford fan’s ass after a Big Game. He was acting haughty and pretentious like you, and said something similar to what you said. However, after picking himself up off the ground, he was a bit more respectful. I hope to see you at a Big Game.
7:02 pm on November 24th, 2009
There is absolutely no way that any Southern university of college would ever boo Mr. Woods. He IS a class act and there are so many jealous people out there…I am shocked that anyone from Stanford OR CAL would drop to that level….Tipper? Get real! Whose business is it? Surely not ours! The man is superb at what he does. He is an entertainer like all professional athletes..that is all…I’m glad he laughs all the way to the bank and would gladly work for the man…I bet he pays his personal help pretty well…Get a life and quit acting childish…The booing made your schools look like the spoiled kids that you are:( Grow up and criticize someone like Chavez or the Iranian President, for God’s sake.
9:59 pm on November 24th, 2009
Give it a rest. So he got booed and did not tip some punk waiter. Get a real job.
11:25 pm on November 24th, 2009
To Craig:
A person of mixed race has to be humble? Exactly why is that Craig? Do Blacks and Asians still have to bow down to Masta for what they get? And if golf is so overrated, why do you watch it? And if you don’t watch it, how can you judge him? Sounds to me like you’re jealous Tiger would probably humbly tell you to kiss his club..
7:38 am on November 25th, 2009
Everyone knows Tiger is awesome. Cal fans were booing the sweatshirt. I was in a Cal bar and we all booed the sweatshirt too.
Stanford fans are very good at finding something to whine about. They do it each and every year. It’s hilarious.
12:06 am on November 26th, 2009
There’s a lot of uglies up in here. It’s spoiled America, ‘IF’ you asked me.
The ONLY thing I DON’T like about Tiger, and it’s not even his fault that the mics on him, is his filthy mouth! There are parents, children, grandparents, etc. etc. that don’t use that language, that hears him when he lets loose. I tell my son all the time, “Just because you’re grown, doesn’t mean it’s okay to use filthy language in public. If you give strangers that respect, you’re still grown.”
Why is it that people that make money are EXPECTED to give it away/back? The man made a living through hard work. Isn’t that open to everybody? I work hard, and give away the benefits, so someone else doesn’t have to? Duhhhhhh!
Still … he got booed. I say to that — What……….eva!
You every notice that everyone that has money, has someone trying to come up with a way/reason/excuse to get it from them? Never let anyone know how much you have, ’cause as sure as you’re breathing air, they will try to get some. Pricks get asked less. As for waiters … 15-20 percent is cool, but I bet they think that because it’s him, he’s SUPPOSE to give more. A lot of waiters have a nasty attitude, and still expect a good tip. Go figure!
Don’t hate. Congradulate!
7:09 pm on November 26th, 2009
I have difficulty taking seriously anyone who can not spell correctly or use proper grammar. I happen to be a huge Tiger fan. I wish he had more of Arnie’s personality but we are all different. There has never been such an outstanding golfer or more generous benefactor for society as Tiger. I love Jack and Arnie but Tiger surpasses both in terms of talent, respect of the game and charitable giving. As for his lapses of correct phrasing, I would challenge anyone with his desire of perfection of the game not to utter an occasional expletive at a misguided shot. . Please enjoy this gentleman while he is in our midst and cheer for each and every ball that slides in the hole.
12:52 pm on November 27th, 2009
Tiger’s an A-hole with all his club slamming and throwing, which seems to be getting worse and more frequent. His apologists say: “He’s just very competitive and hates to lose”. What? You don’t think Jack Nicklaus and Tom Watson hated to lose?? But never ever saw them throw the tantrums like the baby Tiger.
2:28 pm on November 27th, 2009
I love Tiger, and only wish I was 30 years younger. He is a perfect golfer, but an imperfect man like the rest of human kind. The other greats I am Sure used to curse and swear, just that back in their day you did not have the mikes and camera up in your face, capturing every image the way they do now.Leave the man alone I am just happy that I am alive to witness this very talented man. Good luck Tiger
3:59 pm on November 27th, 2009
I don’t think the media reported any club throwing with the past masters. Tiger has contributed more than has ever been reported. He is generous and principled. A great athlete, a good man and I think the media stinks….anything to sell news. Don’t let the media suck you in….be aware…don’t believe everything that is thrown at you…doubt it all…..
7:00 pm on November 27th, 2009
I read these comments and see a lot of people that are jealous of others success, most likely due to the lack of their own. Some say when Tiger attended Stanford that he never helped our gave to his peers, but I seriously doubt that any of the people who were obtaining their degree’s at the same time that Tiger was there have gone on to have 1% of the fame and success that he has enjoyed. I also doubt that all of them combined over the 4-year period have donated 1/2% of the money that Tiger has with his Golfing talent as well as changing the Sport completely. So while you may not like that he is human and not who you want him to be, if you can push away the “Green Monster” long to look beyond your pathetic self issues, you might see that he has done more in his short life than 99% of the people because he is not only naturally talented, he puts 100% into his career of choice and has passion that unless you have been a part of something bigger than your paycheck to paycheck lives will ever offer, you will never truly understand. Therefore, I say “Go Tiger” and let the rest of those wannabes remain wannabes because they will never put in the personal work it takes to rise above yourself.
7:57 pm on November 27th, 2009
How did he not graduate from Stanford?
I thought they all receive ‘A’s by default to get the best offers
9:34 pm on November 27th, 2009
Hello - I believe the cursing, club-slamming, spitting, and high-handedness exhibited by Tiger makes him MORE like a regular successful young man than most of us would like to admit. Our world is unfortunately populated by an increasing number of “douchebags”, only a precious few of whom can actually “back up” their antics and demeanor. Tiger Woods is one of these precious few, and one can only hope that he will mature and become even more of an icon, and less of an apparent self important jackass.
3:23 pm on November 28th, 2009
After reading the comments posted i detect alot of envy, and jealeous remarks. don’t hate the man because of his success. when the club slipped out pof his hand in Austrailia, it was an accident , not a willful disregard for his fans. look at all he does for the young children with his donations. you are all heartless. and one more thing get your facts right first before you start running off your traps.and a word of advice to all you loose mouths.”It Is Better To Keep Your Mouth Closed And Let Others Think You’re Stupid , Than To Open It And Proove Them Right”. GO TIGER, GO.
4:49 pm on November 28th, 2009

This is funny to hear all the negative when Tiger is all the athlete Standford can brag on. The best golfer in the world to change the world. Keep the negative remarks to yourself. That is what is wrong with this country now and wonder why negative things keep happening to us. …with or without a degree Tiger is another Bill Gates! More money than any of you grads will see.lol
7:07 pm on November 29th, 2009
He’s a clown, c’mon putt putt?? Anyone else would be arrested for leaving the scene of an accident without talking to the police. But the rich get away with everything in Amerika. Ask OJ or the clown who plowed over a man while he was drunk. What did he get after paying off the family and judge, 24 days for a mans life. Way to go USA
7:15 pm on November 29th, 2009
Most of you sound very jealous to me. Everyone has problems of some kind. So Tiger has money. He does good things with his money. Don’t any of you ever read what he’s done for kids in this country. We’ve got enough crap going on in this country.People need to keep their comments to themselves and as Kenneth says ” keep your negative remarks to yourself”. I give Tiger a lot of credit for what he has accomplished in his life. Let it be!!! He’s a great golfer . One of the best ever and probably a great person also. Leae well enough alone and mind your own business.

1:46 am on November 30th, 2009
What an a-hole this guy is. Tiger is nothing but a crybaby. He bitch++ about his wifes pictures, crys about his boat deal and refuses to take an early tee
time. Early tee times means he would have to leave his
girl friend — whats her name? Breakfast in bed with his girl friend is much more fun. No wonder his wife beat the death out of his Cadillac with a golf club.
12:37 am on December 1st, 2009
The real crybabies are all you losers who aren’t as talented, successful or smart as Tiger Woods. Hitting a long drive accurately is every bit as talented as consistantly hitting free throws. Marketing yourself successfully is smart. The only thing left in common with you moaners is that he is human. All couples have disagreements…difference knife, rolling pin vs. golf club…proof he’s human. Bad tipper.. what less than 15 -20%? Do something with your lives and quit relying on the “over” generosity of celebs.

SO TPR and LOD, you two must have not been in the university for school, or some silver-spoon kids that make fun of people that work hard for their money, there are a lot of those what you guys consider punk kid that work thru their college by waiting table how would any one know that he had left about 15-20%, all people work for tip would know a bad tipper are those who ate a $300 plate dinner and leave a $1 tip and wants all your total attention in the restaurant and of course they have to take part and give the best service that you can give may be it’s tiger, or may be not, i would not commend on that, only those who served him would answer that, some time people would take him for granted as rumors says he is a bad tipper, then they do not give him the best service and he doesn’t tip good, then whose fault is that.
