Three Frightening Words: Fractured. Left. Testicle.

Seriously. This is becoming a problem. There is no better way to feel a chill go through your bones in the morning than reading that someone has gone on the disabled list with an injury as severe as a shattered testicle.

Chris Snyder

The latest victim is Arizona Diamondbacks catcher Chris Snyder, who suffered the left testicular fracture while doing his job defensively behind the plate against the Brewers on Monday night. (video after the jump)

As expected, the Diamondbacks placed left fielder Eric Byrnes on the 15-day disabled list on Tuesday.

Catcher Chris Snyder unexpectedly joined him.

Both players were injured Monday night against Milwaukee. Byrnes strained his left hamstring and Snyder suffered what was diagnosed as a left testicular fracture after he was struck by a foul ball off the bat of Corey Hart.

AWFUL ANNOUNCING has captured the video of the at-bat. I only advise that you digest first before viewing. Snyder is the second catcher to be victimized in such a fashion this week: the Yankees’ Jose Molina was rolling over after taking a fastball in the junk not a few days ago.

Plus, no one can forget the initial report of Cubs outfielder Felix Pie having missed a couple spring training games with a twisted testicle. The groans of groins stretched all the way to the heavens. As for Snyder, he’s undergoing surgery today and expects to be back in two weeks from the 15-day DL.

I don’t know the regulations about what cups players can and can’t use, but it seems a Nutty Buddy would really be in order:
