One of the unforeseen benefits of the 86-72 Arkansas victory over Indiana last night is that basketball fans get at least one more opportunity to a true star of this tournament - Steve Hill’s hair.

As SPORTSHERNIA.COM graciously demonstrated with photo evidence yesterday, the latest mutation on the Razorback center’s dome is a womenly bob that is being strangled by an unlucky Adidas headband. But those who have followed Arkansas basketball during Hill’s seemingly nine-year tenure realize it’s just the most recent in his history of bizarre self-grooming. We present to you a photo history of the Steven Hill era…

As a youngster, the big man from Branson, MO chose not to call unnecessary attention to himself by going with a simple cropped look. Call it his tribute to the Jim Breuer era on SNL.

But as he grew more comfortable with his hippy alter ego, Mr. Hill’s mane of hair became more rebellious and the headband was first brought in to restore order on the court. Unofficial Razorback statistics show his hair grabbing 2 rebounds a game during the 05-06 season.

The next step was inevitable. If you have the long, stringy hair it’s your civic duty to also grow out a scraggly beard. If you’re going to look like an Apostle, you need to go all the way.

And this year it all came full circle. The headband and beard remained and the hair was sent packing for a more modern “Extreme Makeover” look. Frankly we can’t wait to see what he comes up with at the next level.
