“THE SHOW” CANCELED: Bill Scheft’s weekly “humor” column in Sports Illustrated, “The Show,” has been discontinued, as of last week. The column, which consisted of about 30 one-liners each week that extremely, extremely rarely elicited more than a chuckle from yours truly, was even recently combined into a “Best of” book, currently nestled comfortably into the #3,304 slot on the Amazon.com sales chart. But here’s something curious: the longtime SI golf writer Herbert Warren Wind passed away a few weeks ago at the age of 88- and we learn from his obituary that his nephew was none other than Bill Scheft himself. Is that how Scheft got his job with SI? And isn’t it funny that he just happened to lose it within days of his uncle’s passing?
