I was a rookie with the Falcons in 1968 when we I first met Randy at Training Camp at East Tennessee Stae University. I got to know him and was impressed by how friendly he was. He had a sharp wit and was a tremendous help to me during that time. A real "class guy". A sad story but even sadder ending.

Sad is the only word that describes what happened to Randy Johnson, albeit of his choosing. He was by all accounts a very good QB who had the misfortune of playing for a true expansion team. Not to talk bad about the players but in those days expansion teams took what no one else wanted, usually players that were near the end, at, or beyond their productive years. My dad used to say that Johnson didn't drop back, he ran for his life. His records don't show it and neither do his stats but it would be a classy move by the Falcons to include #11 in their 'Ring of Honor'.
