Before the 2008 NFL season began, the Cleveland Browns were one of the trendy picks to win the AFC North after finished 10-6 last season and made some improvements to their defense to go along with what was supposed to be a high-powered offense. Well, three weeks into the NFL schedule, that high-powered offense has mustered a whopping 8.7 points per game and Cleveland is 0-3.
The 8.7 points per game is the lowest of any team in the NFL this season, and that includes that St. Louis Rams and Kansas City Chiefs (whom I believe are holding contests before the game to see which fan gets to start at quarterback), and a big reason for that is that Derek Anderson has the lowest QB rating of any starter in the league. All of which makes you wonder how much longer Derek is going to be starting before the Browns turn to Brady Quinn.
According to THE PLAIN DEALER (via PRO FOOTBALL TALK), it could be next week:
Coach Romeo Crennel made it clear Sunday everyone’s job is on the line after tumbling to 0-3.
“I told the guys we’re going to look at everybody in every position, and then we’re going to do what we think is the best and try to improve this team,” said Crennel.
Even the quarterback?
“I said all positions,” he said.
Quarterback, running back, reverse cowgirl. All positions.
Many people were wondering why Crennel didn’t turn to Quinn during the Browns loss to the Ravens on Sunday, and he says it’s because the game was still within reach, and that since Derek had taken all the snaps in practice during the week, a change wouldn’t have made any sense.
Yet, keeping the guy who has helped keep you from getting the lead and has been horrible all season in the game does.
No, something tells me the real reason that Crennel didn’t turn to the golden arm of Brady’s during the game yesterday is because he knows that once he does make that move, there’s no turning back. Of course, if the Browns don’t start winning some games soon, it could end up costing Crennel his job, so he may want to make the change as soon as possible as an effort to save his job.
