Tennis Player Arrested For Trashing Calif. Resort

Mashona Washington must have been pretty frustrated on Wednesday. The 32-year-old tennis player was defeated in doubles play during the BNP Paribas Open in Indian Wells, California - and rather soundly, too, going down 6-1, 6-2 in a quarterfinal match. Why, it’s enough make you wanna go break stuff!

And that’s just what Washington apparently did. But she must have had a premonition on how lousy her on-court peformance was going to be, because Mashona went ahead and mashed up her hotel two days earlier.

The PALM SPRINGS DESERT SUN reports that Washington, sister of former tennis pro MaliVai Washington, was arrested at 4:50 pm on Monday at the Hyatt Grand Champions Resort, on suspicion of felony vandalism. The charges mean Mashona must have mustered up more than $5,000 in damages. The Desert Sun didn’t have actual details of what was destroyed, but we can bet this wasn’t just a simple unpaid raid of the mini-bar.

Mashona got to spend some of her Monday settled in the Riverside County Jail, but she was soon released after posting $5,000 bail. It was nice of the jail to accommodate her for a while, since she had no other place to stay - because she just wrecked it!

Now with Wednesday’s loss, Mashona can head on home to Houston. But she’ll be back - on May 14th for her arraignment.  Until then, the Palm Springs Super 8 & Indio Motel 6 are safe for the time being.
