We’ve always looked at Purdue football as the 98 Degrees of that golden age of music, the ’90s boy band phenomenon. A couple small hits here and there, but never quite able to grab attention away from the big boys - like the Backstreet Boys (Michigan) and N’Sync (Ohio State).
(Your Nick Lachey of Big Ten Coaches!)
The INDIANAPOLIS STAR reports today another setback for our favorite former Marlon Brando stunt double, Purdue football coach Joe Tiller: “Roy Roundtree, a nationally ranked receiver and kick returner from Ohio, signed with Michigan on the first day of the college football signing period. Roundtree committed to Purdue in May and reaffirmed his decision many times since. He signed with new Michigan coach Rich Rodriguez after a visit to Ann Arbor, Mich., last weekend.”
So after being spurned the day before college football’s version of the junior prom, Tiller did the only thing a self-respecting Big 10 coach would do - he brought out the big guns. That is, the dreaded “wizard hat” reference.
