In a series of Tweets today, Vikings punter Chris Kluwe harshly criticized the field conditions at TCF Stadium in Minneapolis, which will host the Minnesota-Chicago NFL game Monday night.
“Serious time - All respect to the people that cleared the field and got it ready, you did an amazing job. That being said, it’s unplayable. The field is as hard as concrete an hour and a half after they took the tarp off, and anyone that hits their head is getting a concussion.
“I find it interesting that the NFL can claim an emphasis on player safety, and then tell us the field is fine. It’s beyond hypocritical. I can only hope, however unlikely, that no one gets catastrophically injured at the trainwreck that’s about to take place tomorrow night.”
Following those Tweets, Kluwe posted the following entry on Twitter:
I’ve been asked not to tweet anymore about the field so as not to distract teammates (who were there) and I will honor that. Time for WoW.
While Kluwe didn’t post any photos, his Minnesota teammate Visanthe Shiancoe did.
• If Visanthe Shiancoe’s NFL career doesn’t pan out, there’s always the open invitation to join the adult film industry.
• Carmelo Anthony’s favorite kind of record - 33 in the 3rd.
• Vassily Ivanchuk could face a two-year ban for doping - not from the NHL, but from the World Chess Federation.
• Boys & girls playing basketball together? That’s too sinful for our schools!

Overall, things haven’t been going that great for the Minnesota Vikings in the last few weeks. While they’re still in first place in the NFC North over the Chicago Bears, they have the possible suspensions of The Williams Wall looming over their heads, and now they have to put their playoff hopes in the incompetent hands of Tarvaris Jackson thanks to Gus Frerotte’s broken back. Still, despite all the troubles facing the rest of his team, things are going pretty well for tight end/flasher Visanthe Shiancoe.
Ever since Visanthe unsheathed his sword on Fox’s postgame coverage last Sunday, he’s received quite a bit of attention. Where as before Sunday he was just a tight end with a weird name nobody could pronounce, now he’s a tight end with a weird name nobody can pronounce who has showed his penis to the world. The world noticed that penis too. Well, at least the porn world noticed.
After a comeback win that could be key to Minnesota’s playoff hopes, FOX got its cameras to go into the Vikings locker room for what it thought would be a touching moment of total access. Instead, the moment is bound to live in TV infamy for an incident of total exposure.
(Screen grab from The Sporting Blog.)
As television cameras panned the locker room while team owner Zygi Wilf presented a game ball to coach Brad Childress — whose son has enlisted with the Marines and is awaiting a deployment to Iraq — they caught a few Vikings unprepared to be seen on live, national TV. One, in particular, happened to be missing, well, his pants. According to THE SPORTING BLOG, the exposed Viking covered up quickly, but not before TiVos everywhere snapped back to capture the moment forever. Hey, at least he knows he has Chris Cooley for company.
Yes, that is the poor, unsuspecting Vikings junk you see obscured by our masterful use of the Photoshop paintbrush tool (blurring of image may not be to scale). And who is the unsuspecting victim of Rupert Murdoch’s impetuous cameramen? After extensive research (i.e., clicking through every single player listed on the Vikings online roster), we’ve determined it’s none other than Visanthe Shiancoe: Morgan State grad, tight end and, we assume, decent human being who fell prey to the camera lens.
