Greenberg: Another Heartbreaker (In The Family)

You may remember the WASHINGTON POST publishing a 61-photo tribute to Virginia Tech hoops coach Seth Greenberg’s lovely daughter Paige (on left):

I’m happy to report that it’s officially time for the Post to freshen up that Greenberg file.

Last year after Seth Greenberg’s Virginia Tech Hokies were beaten in the ACC Tournament by North Carolina, effectively ending their chances for a NCAA Tournament bid, this was the reax of Ella Greenberg, Paige’s younger sister:

What a difference a year makes. Yes, Ella has matured into a poised young woman. A woman who, like sister Paige, now attends Virginia Tech.

‘Saw V’ — There Go The Georgia Tech Goalposts

Oh you crazy college kids and your tearing down of the goalposts after a big upset victory. Also your carrying of the goalpost to the university president’s house and then cutting it into small pieces with a hacksaw on his lawn. GREG: “You’re talking about Delta House, sir.” DEAN WORMER: “Of course I’m talking about Delta House, you twit!”

Actually in this case we’re talking about Georgia Tech, whose boisterous students, after an unlikely 28-24 win over No. 4 Virginia Tech, tore down the goalposts and made off with one of them. Fun fact: Among the injuries reported in the escapade was “asthma attack.” Milhouse did not return a phone call for comment.

E. Carolina Beats Virginia Tech With Beamer Ball

Lost in the hoopla: it was a member of the Holtz family engineering the upset. East Carolina coach Skip Holtz put together a coherent, spittle-free gameplan that would give his father, Lou, great pride. Some would dispute that East Carolina’s victory is a true upset since a good chunk of the Hokies’ offense is generated from its special teams and defense. Regardless, the Hokies were defeated by a lesser foe on a glorious opening Saturday for college football.

The game-changing play was a Beamer-esque blocked punt and touchdown return with under a minute remaining that gave the arrrrrrrrr Pirates the 27-22 lead. Virginia Tech never answered in its final possession. The Hokies’ 16-car-collision of a wreck mismanagement of its quarterbacks is being blamed. Read more…
