Boxer Vernon Forrest Shot, Killed By Carjackers

Another weekend, another opportunity for the celebrity death train to keep on rolling grimly down the tracks. As children of the 1980s, we were saddened to learn of the death of You Can’t Do That On Television star Les Lye on Friday. Well, he died Thursday, but we learned about it on Friday. He was 84, so luckily he had the opportunity to live a full, rich life.

Former champion pro boxer Vernon “The Viper” Forrest, sadly, did not. Only two weeks after former champion boxer Arturo Gatti died/was killed/committed suicide/shuffled off this mortal coil, Forrest was shot and killed Saturday night during an attempted carjacking in Atlanta.

Mayorga’s Workout Plan: Smoking To The Oldies

The only thing bigger than Ricardo Mayorga’s mouth is his ability to shove cigarettes into it. The WALL STREET JOURNAL reports on Mayorga’s unlikely comeback at almost 35 leading up to his fight on Saturday against Shane Mosley, but mainly about the fact that he is able to fight at an elite level despite smoking three packs a day.

Well, let’s not get carried away with “elite level” - his big win on his comeback was against Fernando Vargas, perhaps one of the few fighters who is more shot physically than Mayorga. Before that, the last we had seen of Mayorga, Oscar de la Hoya was turning his face into hamburger meat. Before that, it was Felix Trinidad’s turn to pound on Mayorga.
