Saturday ESPN’s Desmond Howard reported on his official Twitter account that he was nearly physically attacked by CBS announcer Phil Simms while at the NFL Xperience exhibit in Dallas.

(Simms one hour before confrontation with Howard)
Howard reported in a serious of Tweets:
At NFL-Xperience and Phil Simms just threatened 2 hit me b/c I said his son was 1 of the worse QBs in the SEC. I told him “LET’S GO!”
I am DEAD serious about the Phil Simms thing. We all thought he was joking, but he kept going and said he wanted 2 take a swing at me!!
It ended w/police stepping in between so I could continue my appearance w/fans.

Just when you thought that your memories of the Denver Gold and the Pittsburgh Maulers must be resulting from some Tijuana-induced drug flashback, the news hit: The USFL is back! But unlike the UFL, with its fancy “press conferences” and “letting people know they exist,” the USFL just kind of quietly put up a web site, and if you happen to stumble upon it, great. The former 49ers quarterback is speaking out against and giving money to defeat the controversial measure that would ban gay marriage in California. Making it even more interesting, he is breaking with the Mormon Church on the issue.

Young is a direct descendant of Brigham Young (I guess technically making him a legacy at BYU) and a very visible member of the LDS church, even starring in Myths & Reality, an informational video on the church. (I could totally embed it, but I wouldn’t ask you to watch a 10-minute video on the Mormons. It’s here, if you really want.) So it’s all the more impressive that he’s willing to go against its official stance for something he believes in. Giordano Bruno was executed for less than that.

As Spygate rumbles along, former Patriots offensive coordinator Charlie Weis hasn’t said much about it - and it sounds like he won’t be saying anything at all.

(“I know NOTHING!”)
But as PRO FOOTBALL TALK reports, there is one young gun that wants to hear the current Notre Dame coach shoot his mouth off about the whole affair - a Young gun by the name of Steve. Read more…
