Managers of keeper leagues around the world woke up to some bad news this morning: The number 1 WR is all of fantasy sports, Steve Smith, has been suspended for the first two games of the year.

The suspension comes as punishment for yesterday’s TKO of Panthers cornerback Ken Lucas during the team’s second practice (Practice?!?!) of the day. That’s certainly one way to sabotage your team’s chances right out of the gate.

Teammates fight at football practices - it’s a rough, physical game, and tempers flare. But usually the fights are lots of slapping and pushing. Rarely does it end with the loser being carted off, but that’s just what happened today when an All-Pro wide receiver Steve Smith wailed away on Panthers teammate Ken Lucas.

This isn’t the first time that Smith has been in trouble for brawling. Back in 2002 he was arrested and jailed after breaking Anthony Bright’s nose in a fight that broke out while watching game film, and Smith wound up getting suspended for a game. But don’t expect the same fate: he’s not a young player now but one of the best WRs in the league.

Just because DeAngelo Hall may soon be off to Oakland, it doesn’t mean the former Falcon’s heated rivalry with Steve Smith will be cooling off.

ESPN’s HASHMARKS hears a quick quip tossed out by the Panthers receiver on the Raiders-bound DB. Smith was on Sirius NFL Radio on Monday, when he was asked if he would miss the departing DeAngelo:
