People around the league were slightly surprised by the outright release of Chris Chambers by the San Diego Chargers earlier this week. While the veteran receiver’s production was down significantly, releases in the middle of a season don’t happen that often, and the whispers were that there had to be something more going on.

(It’s a pretty woman’s mugshot. In the middle of a sports story. That’s never, ever a good sign.)

Boy howdy, was there ever. The woman shown above is one Stacey Saunders, a San Diego woman who, according to the SAN DIEGO UNION-TRIBUNE, has allegedly been intent on ruining Chris Chambers’ family for the past few months. In police reports and divorce proceedings, Chambers and his soon-to-be ex-wife claim that after a brief affair with Chambers, Saunders has been harassing him and his wife over the phone and via text message, to the point that it led to a divorce and disrupted his ability to perform on the field. So off you go, sir.

The name of Caron Butler’s new blog at NBA.com is called THE REAL JUICE. He came up with the name after breaking an addiction that had seemingly taken over his life:

Mountain Dew.

To try and give this up was CRAZY for me! I was going through withdrawals. I was in the bed sweating. My wife would turn over in the bed and ask “Are you OK?”. Honestly, those first two weeks without The Dew was the roughest two weeks of my life. I’m talking headaches, sweats and everything. Before that I drank at least six 12 ounce Mountain Dews a day.

The ASSOCIATED PRESS reports that less than 24 hours after Steve Phillips was fired by ESPN, the network has announced that Brooke Hundley has also no longer works at ESPN.

Spokesman Mike Soltys said Monday that Brooke Hundley doesn’t work at ESPN anymore. He declined to say whether she quit or was fired. Hundley did not immediately return a phone message Monday.

TMZ keeps us current on our Opposite Day! post category, reporting that Brooke Hundley requested a restraining order against Steve Phillips 24 hours after she spooked Phillips’ wife Marni by dropping off a letter at the Phillips home that entailed her undying love for the ESPN analyst.

In the request, Hundley claims that while on an ESPN baseball road trip, Phillips “bought me a strong drink and then cornered me … trying to persuade me to come to his hotel suite to spend the night.”

As details of the utterly botched affair between Steve Phillips and Brooke Hundley emerge, two patterns seem to become clearer. One: Phillips probably had no business ever hooking up with a 22-year-old, much less a co-worker. Two: He certainly underestimated Hundley’s crazy.

(Still say this relationship could work.)

As the NEW YORK POST continues its investigation, it looks like Hundley’s posing as a high school classmate of Phillips’ son wasn’t an isolated incident; she appears to have a knack for assuming new identities online, identities crafted for the sole purpose of getting into the Phillips’ life and breaking up the marriage. Quite a revealing day for Steve Phillips & Brooke Hundley, wasn’t it?

With his one-week suspension & following self-imposed leave of absence, Steve-O will have plenty of time to think about what he’s done - and plenty of time to track down a good divorce lawyer. Meanwhile, this experience should aid Brooke in dispensing out some more good professional advice & astute observations.

22-year-old ESPN employee Brooke Hundley, who had sex three times with ESPN’s Steve Phillips, who was still married at the time, wrote this Oct. 5 message currently on her Facebook account: “David Letterman yet another dirtbag with no morals on television surprise surprise….Jimmy Kimmel’s better anyhow.”

Today she messaged her Facebook friends:  “Don’t believe everything you read in the papers … If you’re a friend of me, it’s like the papers have or will ask you to comment. Please refrain from saying anything.”

This afternoon, Phillips announced that he is taking an indefinite leave of absence from ESPN, following his initial one-week suspension from the network. He has not been fired, and the leave is apparently voluntary.
