We’ll probably never know the full scope of the vast minefield that was Steve McNair’s love life, but one thing seems certain. There was more than one “other woman.” CBS’s Armen Keteyian has reopened this sordid box of weirdness once again, and now out pops another name: Leah Ignagni, which CBS News is alleging is yet another woman with whom McNair was seeing without knowledge of his wife.

Nashville police released a case study today naming Ignagni as someone they had interviewed, and who McNair was also seeing. The former quarterback was killed, police believe, by girlfriend Sahel Kazemi, who then turned the gun on herself.
The report states that based on police interviews with Ignagni and Kazemi’s former roommate, Emily Andrews, Kazemi knew that McNair was involved with another woman. CBS rolled out several pictures of Ignagni today. Read more…

In the wake of yesterday’s report by CBS, calling into question the very notion that Steve McNair was killed by girlfriend Sahel Kazemi, the legal community was abuzz for approximately a couple hours… until the Nashville police released new text messages between the two, which effectively squelched all alternative murder theories… or did they?

We’ve tried to keep an open mind here, even as the initial and subsequent evidence have pointed to a murder-suicide. As we said yesterday, though, nothing new that’s come out has even suggested that anybody but Kazemi is the killer; today, too, the revelations only change the narrative under which Kazemi killed McNair.

It’s been over three months since the awful story about Steve McNair’s murder first broke, and from virtually the first moment on, all the convenional wisdom has suggested that his illicit girlfriend, Sahel (or “Jenny“) Kazemi had killed McNair before turning the gun on herself.

CBS NEWS, however, seems to think otherwise - or at the very least, seems to think the police’s investigation was a combination of incomplete and inaccurate. And while some questions they raise are a little less convincing than others, the totality of the CBS investigation certainly makes the circumstances of the incident seem a little less plausible than before.
[UPDATE: CBS’s Arman Keteyian says his investigation has prompted “a major breakthrough” in the case. No details, of course.]

The ASSOCIATED PRESS has this terribly sad video of Steve McNair, part of three different public service announcements he narrated on suicide prevention.

(Tearjerk Alert)
“Hi, I’m Steve McNair, I know that some young people are struggling with tough times. Each year too many young people are taking their own lives. … ”
McNair then gives a suicide hotline number.
The videos were shelved from public airing soon after McNair’s death - until obtained by the AP.

I would say that we’re all appalled by the Steve McNair-Sahel Kazemi skeleton display for Kings Island Ohio’s Halloween theme, but of course, that wouldn’t be true. If not for the Mark Whickers among us, AOL’s Clay Travis wouldn’t have his exclusive.

(My former colleague, Kings Island p.r. guy Don Helbig, botched this one)
But to make matters worse the public relations guy for Kings Island, a past acquaintance of mine named Don Helbig, said of the display “There was no reference to Steve McNair at all. No jersey, nothing.”
Crap, Don.

We tend to get pretty cynical around here; understandable, because there’s only three parking spaces at SbB, and Gaines takes them all up with his used motorhome. But every now and then a story hits us like a basket of kittens, and we must emote. This item about Vince Young and the young sons of the late Steve McNair is one of those.

The Tennessee Titans take on the Buffalo Bills in the Hall of Fame Game to kick off the NFL preseason on Sunday, and aside from the always delightful antics of Terrell Owens, viewers will also be greeted by this: A decal on the Titans’ helmets honoring the late Steve McNair.

The Titans, in fact, wanted to honor their former quarterback with a uniform patch, but the league had already committed to patch honoring the 50th anniversary of the American Football League, and they can’t have two. But now comes the question that the Titans probably never thought they’d have to answer: Does McNair deserve such an honor? Many, even including some Titans fans, are saying no. Read more…
