Welcome back to your regularly scheduled SPORTSbyBROOKS programming. We hope you all had a wonderful Memorial Day weekend, or at the very least, got drunk and embarrassed yourself somehow.
Somebody who didn’t drink and embarrass herself over the weekend was Danica Patrick. While she didn’t win the Indy 500 on Sunday, she did manage to finish in third place. Now as Ricky Bobby would remind us, if you’re not first your last, but third place is still the least last that any driver who has to pee sitting down at the Brickyard has ever finished, so she should be proud of herself.
If nothing else the third-place finish might help her forget about that unfortunate speeding ticket she got from that motorcycle cop/stripper that she ran into in the desert.
(Exclusive video of the traffic incident after the jump.)
Mets fans may remember Angel Pagan, who quite capably filled in as the starting left fielder for the first part of last season while Moises Alou was rehabbing. Pagan had shoulder surgery after injuring himself midway through the ‘08 season and then seemingly disappeared from the Mets’ plans, with Daniel Murphy and Gary Sheffield now in the mix.
Things have taken a further turn for the worse for Pagan, who was rehabbing his injury at the Mets’ complex in Port St. Luice, Florida, when he was nabbed by cops for speeding. That wasn’t a big deal in and of itself, but it turns out Pagan has a suspended license and several outstanding traffic-related warrants. Oops.
Danica Patrick has been racing for a few years now, and has only won one race in 65 career starts. Yet, for some reason, she’s still a big hit with advertisers. Seriously, as I was typing that sentence I just heard a commercial on the radio for motor oil with Danica talking about how she uses it in both her race car and her regular driving car. I’m no genius, but I’m guessing her popularity has a lot more to do with her appearance and gender than it does her ability to drive a car.
Unfortunately it seems that Danica is starting to grow frustrated with the fact that she can’t win on the race track. You know how I told you she uses the same motor oil in both her race car and her regular driving car? Well it seems as though Danica is having a tough time trying to figure out which car is which, as she was busted for speeding earlier this month in Arizona.
