Remember the big deal that was made when David Beckham made his return to LA Galaxy, and the fans were mean, then he challenged one to a fight, and the fan said sure, then the fan got out of his seat, and the two so totally almost fought if they’d been 40 feet closer to each other? That sure was intense, right?
(The face of a man without regret. Err, the exact opposite.)
Feh. Piddling. Of no great import, we say! If you really want to enjoy some fan-based misbehavior, you’re going to have to travel to Europe. And not just any old Europe; we’re talking about Eastern Europe, which is like what would happen if our Rust Belt were constantly fighting itself. You thought rural Ohio was an indefensible dump now, imagine what would happen if it also hosted some good, old-fashioned bombing and ethnic cleansing!
But they still love their soccer. And their alcohol, they love that too. And they also really love anarchy. What could go wrong? Video after the break.
Pssh, you call those “riots,” Los Angeles? If you’re not setting fires and fighting with police before you leave the arena, it’s not a real riot. Perhaps we’d be better as a nation at this if we paid more attention to soccer.
Romania, which knows a little something about riots, had their soccer final Saturday. While most fans of the losing side reacted with understated flares and attacks on police, one supporter of Timisoara actually took it upon himself to make a difference. He ran onto the field, apparently unnoticed by security, refs and players, and scored a goal for his team.

The Bolton Wanderers have seen attendance dip in recent years as they have languished in the relegation zone of the English Premier League. So the DAILY NEWS reports that the team had a novel concept to get people to Saturday’s game against Blackburn: give the fans free beer. Let’s see, free beer plus English soccer fans? Nope, I can’t see how that could end up poorly at all.
The first 1,000 fans will have the ability to enter the “Fan Zone” at the team’s Reebok Stadium and get a free beer or cider and deeply discounted food. For the rest of the game, drinks will be just £1.75 (roughly $3.00) for the rest of the match. No word if they will let you into the stadium if you are wearing a Dodgers hat, though.
