I have a revelation which will shock exactly nobody: I know nothing about cricket. I consider myself a worldly sports fan and an engaged American citizen, but the foreign charms of cricket have always eluded my apathetic interest. But from what I do know, it would not seem to be a game that arouses deep partisan passion in its players. After all, how mad can you get when you’re just standing around for days on end?
Of course, people could probably say that about baseball, and people love to fight in baseball. Which is why it should probably come as no surprise that a friendly cricket match in the park ended with a cricketeer being viciously beaten by opposing players.
