The SAN FRANCISCO CHRONICLE reports that the previous USF coach before Eddie’s arrival is suing the school for firing him, and is also going after USF’s athletic director and attorney for allegedly defaming him.
Eddie Sutton is coming out of retirement and heading back to the hardwood:
CBS SPORTSLINE reports that the 71-year-old ex-Oklahoma State coach will taking over at the University of San Francisco on an interim basis. Sutton steps in for Jessie Evans, who apparently asked for a leave of absence for the rest of the season.
The convenient switch means that Sutton now has a shot at reaching 800 wins in his coaching career. Eddie - who also made coaching stops at Creighton, Arkansas and Kentucky - ended his tenure at Stillwater with 798 career victories. He could have reached the big 8-0-0 with the Cowboys, had he not retired after a DUI charge in February 2006.
Sutton’s first stab comes this Friday against Weber State in Ogden, UT. Hopefully, he’ll get a ride so he doesn’t have to drive himself.
