A Class-A Brawl Breaks Out in Class-A Ball Game

Peoria Chiefs pitcher Julio Castillo had some issues commanding the location of his fastball in last night’s Class-A game against the Dayton Dragons. Castillo hit everything but the strikezone - including two batters and a fan - resulting in a 10 minute bench clearing brawl, 17 ejections and one night in jail for the pitcher. The fan was hospitalized after being hit with a ball thrown by Castillo, which was intended for the Dayton dugout. Benches were beginning to clear following a shoving match between Dayton manager Donnie Scott and interim Peoria manager Carmelo Martinez, who was filling in for regular manager Ryne Sandberg.

ESPN.COM reports that “Castillo was arrested and faces one count of felonious assault. He is in the Montgomery County Jail and has a court appearance Friday.” Read more…
