Rutgers has been one of college football’s best stories over the past three seasons, but with a loss to Navy on Saturday dropping the Scarlet Knights to 0-3, this season is officially a disaster.

Senior quarterback Mike Teel, who has shouldered much of the blame for the team’s poor showing, threw an interception as the team was driving late in the 23-21 loss on Saturday, clinching the win for Navy. Then, as a teammate was consoling Teel, he reacted as any reasonable person would — by attempting to punch him in the face.

• Anna Rawson, 150th on the money list but 1st on our hot list, finished on top of the leaderboard after the first round of the Bell Micro Classic.

Feel free to call her up to offer some congratulations.
• Terrell Owens says it could’ve worked out with him & Donovan McNabb, but the Eagles QB was just too jealous of T.O.’s star power.
• Looks like Rutgers has rolled back to his rotten football ways. How’s that new stadium funding coming?
• Set a place for Sidney Crosby at your dinner table, ’cause he’s coming over with your Penguins season tickets.
• The Patriots are fuming over the latest fashion statement celebrating Bernard Pollard’s takedown of Tom Brady.

In the past two years, Rutgers coach Greg Schiano has resisted overtures from powerhouse programs like Michigan and Miami, signing an extension that will (supposedly) keep him in Jersey until 2016. Based on how things are going so far this year, he won’t need to worry about any those distractions anymore (nor will have to worry about Rutgers offering to extend that contract again).

The Scarlet Knights were blasted 44-12 on Thursday night by North Carolina, a team that hadn’t won a game played outside of its home state in six years. That’s two games, two home losses, for the coach who just two years ago had his program ranked as high as #6 in the nation. And on a night where his team carried the banner for New York-area teams on the anniversary of 9/11, the sell-out crowd was booing senior quarterback Mike Teel before halftime.

• Rutgers fans are rankled that Erin Andrews wasn’t working their game on Monday. Erin responds by having replacement reporter Rob Stone read her official statement on the matter during the game.

• George O’Leary & UCF certainly know how to make a teleconference titillating - just send the media a phone sex number by mistake.
• Figures that Oklahoma football players would get in a bar brawl Sooner or later.
• Jaguars OT Richard Collier is in critical condition after getting shot early Tuesday morning.
• Cubs catcher Koyie Hill makes it back to the Majors after almost having his fingers cut off in a wood saw accident.

People in New Jersey have never been shy about sharing their feelings with others, usually going on about how Bruce Springsteen and Bon Jovi are the greatest things to happen to music since, well, ever. So clearly, though they have no problem expressing themselves, they aren’t the smartest people in the country.

Still, it’s hard to blame the good people of New Jersey for being upset when they found out that Rob Stone was going to be working the sidelines of yesterday’s game between Rutgers and Fresno State instead of the lovely Erin Andrews. After all, I’m guessing about 50-60% of the males in attendance only bought tickets to the game because they were under the impression that Andrews would be working the sidelines. Those fans weren’t alone in their frustration either, as even Erin took the time to write Stone a letter about the whole thing. A letter Rob shared on the air.

Beer & football - two great tastes that go great together. And Rutgers is keeping the duo forever entwined by building their new football stadium on the site of an old tavern.

FOOTBALL STADIUM DIGEST drinks in news that the Scarlet Knights’ new gridiron locale has been discovered to be on the spot of the “legendary” Rising Sun Tavern.
The 18th-century watering hole was not only a good place to enjoy an ale, but also get a first-class education, as the Rising Sun was supposedly the first building to host classes for Rutgers students. Read more…

Could this season finally be the last for Joe Paterno in Happy Valley? And is Greg Schiano the man who will fill his wingtips?

(”Hit the road, old man!” “You want some of this, punk?“)
THE PHANATIC MAGAZINE can believe it. The Philly sports site hears word from the always-reliable “unnamed source” that plans are afoot in Penn State to punt the 81-year-old coach out of the picture, and bring in the man who’s revitalized Rutgers’ once-rotten football program: Read more…

If you’re a women’s basketball coach looking to reach a milestone, try to schedule a game with Doug Bruno. The DePaul coach has fallen as victim #800 not once, but twice.

C. Vivian Stringer was the latest to clinch her 800th career win, as Rutgers beat the Blue Demons 60-46 Wednesday night. Previously, Bruno was pummeled by Pat Summitt when the Tennessee coach grabbed her own 800th victory.
Doug & the Demons were courteous enough to give Stringer a pre-game handshake. And Vivian’s players & fans gave her much more post-game.
