LeBron Would Play In Europe If The Price Is Right

LeBron James would leave the NBA & play in Europe, all for a yearly salary of only … 50 MILLION DOLLARS! (raises pinky to corner of mouth)

Prince Apologizes For Planning To Pummel Parra

There are many ways to show leadership in sports: mentor young players, lead by example, or, if you’re Prince Fielder, commit assault & battery.

Prince Fielder is unhappy

On Monday night, Fielder shoved Brewers pitcher & teammate Manny Parra because Parra seemed uninterested in hanging around the dugout after being pulled from the game. Going by the “Oh, crap, I’m about to get wasted by a guy who outweighs me by two bills” expression on Parra’s face, I’m guessing from now on he’ll be the first guy at the park in the morning and the last to leave after the game. Message received, Prince.

For what it’s worth, Fielder did apologize for almost snapping the Brewers pitcher in two, but isn’t sorry for his extremely competitive nature.

Fielder, Parra Brawl In Brewers Dugout Brouhaha

Do you remember the other professional team that plays in Wisconsin? The one that doesn’t have Brett Favre? The team that was tied for the NL Central lead with the Cubs on July 26 before getting swept? Is any of this ringing a bell?

Prince Fielder Brewers fight

Well, the Brewers found a way to get some attention last night, even if it was for all the wrong reasons. On their way to a 6-3 loss to the Reds on Monday night, pitcher Manny Parra and first baseman Prince Fielder got into a shoving match in the dugout. And by “shoving match”, I mean “mauling”.

Brog: Brand Never Saw Clips Near-Matching Offer

Mark Heisler of the LOS ANGELES TIMES has more details today on Elton Brand’s escape to Philly. Heisler notes that the Clippers tried to offer Brand a contract of $81M, but Brand’s agent David Falk stopped returning the club’s calls. Brand eventually accepted an $82M deal from the Sixers.

Elton Brand Billboard

Heisler surmises, as we did here last Friday, that Falk is most likely behind Brand spurning the Clippers. Keep in mind though that Heisler’s sources on the matter are likely Clippers-affiliated, and the club is presently in full damage control mode.

Not many saw the Philly move coming, but two ESPN 950 radio hosts in Philadelpia, Harry Mayes and Dan Schwartzman, browbeat Brand on-air about joining the Sixers as early as June 5 (audio).

Meanwhile, Jonathan Abrams of the Times reports that Baron Davis’ agent has confirmed his client is still hip to clip.

USA TODAY reports that NASCAR driver Jimmie Johnson endorsed John McCain yesterday at the National Press Club: “I’d have to pick (John) McCain. I think our core fan base, being Republicans like they are, that will be their first choice.”

FYI: NASCAR’s home state of North Carolina is currently represented in Congress by seven Democrats and six Republicans.

(We avoided Charles Woodson’s wine stains, but not this - thankfully)

When I was at the Playboy Mansion recently, they were pouring samples of a wine called “24.” No idea what it was at the time, but now the DETROIT NEWS reports that the vino is the handiwork of noted vintner Charles Woodson.

The Chicago Bears official website has plenty of fun with the fact that when Jim McMahon visited the White House in 1996 as a member of the Super Bowl champion Green Bay Packers, he actually wore a Bears jersey.

Excerpt: “When the Packers were honored at the White House, McMahon wore a Bears jersey, enraging Green Bay fans. McMahon explained that he did it because the Bears never got a chance to visit the White House after winning Super Bowl XX. Their trip to Washington was canceled after the Challenger space shuttle blew up.

God I miss that dude.

Paul Lukas of UNI WATCH BLOG has a bone to pick with the Brewers.

Just Like Daddy: Prince Fielder Owes IRS $400,000

It’s been well documented how Cecil Fielder completely blew tens of millions of dollars after retiring from baseball, and now his (estranged) son is picking up the money mismanagement mantle slack to keep us all entertained.

Prince Fielder in Royal Trouble Due To Dad’s Debts

Milwaukee Brewers slugger Prince Fielder has inherited a lot from dad Cecil - his powerful swing, his large frame, and now, his legal woes.

Prince Fielder

HOUSTONED crunches the numbers, as a Georgia financial company is suing Prince and also his grandparents in an effort to get back money owed by Cecil.

The problems started in 2000, when Cecil signed some leases with ORIX Financial Services to help finance his trucking company. However, Cecil defaulted on the loans in 2003, and ORIX sued to recover more than $1 million lent to the former Detroit Tiger.

Prince & the grandparents come in the picture because ORIX claims Cecil signed over ownership of his two houses to the relatives. The company says the move was made to hide assets, with the intent to “hinder, delay and/or defraud ORIX.”

Cecil Fielder

It’s not the first time Cecil’s money troubles came to haunt Prince. Once after a minor league game, the younger Fielder was tracked down by a process server and given papers, naming his dad as a defendant in another business-related lawsuit.

It looks like Cecil’s been a royal pain in the butt for Prince.
