Flyers, Pens Proposed To Puck It Up At Penn State

With the success of the Winter Classic in Buffalo, and the New York Rangers attempting to bid Yankee Stadium a fond farewell, the NHL is examining other locations to host an outdoor game. And Pennsylvania’s governor has proposed a new place to drop the puck - Penn State.

FOOTBALL STADIUM DIGEST skates over news that Gov. Ed Rendell has recommended giving the Nittany Lions’ Beaver Stadium the old college try. The plan would be to have the Pittsburgh Penguins & Philadelphia Flyers meet in the middle of the state to face off in the 108,000-seat stadium.

But right now, that’s all it is - a plan. Plus, the Pens & Flyers are both more concerned about their playoff battle at the moment. But support for the proposal is growing. (There’s even a Facebook group created for it!) And the game could be a record-breaker. Read more…
