And now a quick recap of Saturday’s early finals, with some selective commentary thrown in.

Northern Illinois University tries to return to some normalcy tonight, as the men’s basketball team hosts Western Michigan.

It will be the first game the Huskies will play since the Feb. 14 classroom shooting that left five students dead. Other sporting events have been rescheduled or canceled altogether.
In a show of support to the school, the Chicago White Sox will be wearing NIU caps when they begin their spring training schedule on Wednesday against Colorado. After the game, players will autograph and send the caps back to DeKalb, where they’ll be auctioned off. The money raised will go toward scholarships established in memory of the shooting victims.

Northern Illinois University has canceled all their athletic events in the wake of Thursday’s deadly campus shooting.

All scheduled Huskies events - both home and away - will not be played this weekend. Teams affected include men’s & women’s basketball, men’s & women’s tennis, women’s track & field, women’s gymnastics, men’s golf and wrestling.
The decision came on the day a former grad student entered a campus lecture hall and began shooting, killing five students and wounding a dozen others before killing himself.
