Jets Name Brett to Start Preseason Home Opener

While most of the games played by the 4-12 New York Jets last season were pretty meaningless, next Saturday’s very meaningless exhibition against at home against the Washington Redskins just got a little more interesting. Jets head coach Eric Mangini not-so-shockingly announced today that the recently acquired Brett Favre will get the start in that game, the team’s preseason home opener.

The 38-year-old quarterback who participated in his first practice today in front of a crowd of about 7,000 Jets fans got the nod over Kellen Clemens from Mangini despite missing much of the team’s training camp.

In “Operation: Make the Jets Seem Interesting” the number of practices the icon QB participates in is pretty insignificant. On Saturday, the seats in the stadium named after the other football team in New York will be filled, and those people didn’t sit in traffic to watch Clemens throw interceptions. They came to watch Favre throw interceptions.
