Mitch Report: Lakers Now Your NBA Title Favorites

Lakers TV announcer John Ireland sent over a note today that gave us a smile:

Lakers Vegas Favorites

“I just checked www.linesmaker.com and for what it’s worth, the Lakers are now the favorites to win the NBA Championship at 2-1. The Celtics are 5-2; the Spurs 6-1 and Pistons 15-2. Suns are 7-1 for now. How crazy is that?”

Yes, for Lakers fans, like us, that’s good news. But not necessarily for the reasons you may think.

ESPN Radio In Los Angeles Gets Major Overhaul

MAJOR OVERHAUL OF ESPN RADIO’S LIPSTICK CITY LINEUP: Tom Hoffarth of the L.A. DAILY NEWS reports today on major changes at ESPN Radio 710 (KSPN) in Los Angeles. Gone are hosts John Ireland (afternoons with Steve Mason) and Kevin Kiley (middays). Hoffarth laid out the new local lineup today:

John Ireland Steve Mason

1-4 p.m.: “The Steve Mason Show“4-7 p.m.: “The Dave Dameshek Show

7-10 p.m.: “The Brian Long Show

Exciting, eh? Well we do like Steve Mason and that should be a good listen. All the shows will be apparently buttressed with lots of celebrity contributors, some on a regular basis.

KSPN obviously wasn’t happy with the ratings of Mason and Ireland - and Kiley in the middays - but will Mason middays and Dameshek in the afternoon be a huge improve? We’re guessing no. We hope we’re wrong.

Allison Stokke Shuns Attention By Appearing On ESPN Radio In Studio

STOKKE STILL SHUNS ATTENTION WITH ESPN APPEARANCE: Allison Stokke, who has ridden a wave of internet popularity (which was started by WITH LEATHER and a certain SoCal sports blog), showed just how media shy she was Wednesday afternoon, as she guested in-studio with Steve Mason and John Ireland on KSPN-AM in Los Angeles.

The only mildly interesting part of the visit came when Stokke told Ireland that she’d been offered an acting part thanks to clamor created by her web-based fame. Stokke: “I don’t know what’s going to come of it. I highly doubt I can act.

That’s more than we can say for Mason and Ireland, who somehow were able to convince Stokke that they were actually interested in her pole vaulting career for 30 minutes of airtime. But based on her body shots from the KSPN website, I guess a half-hour of disbelief suspension wasn’t so tough after all.
